[Once Allen hangs up, Riddle sighs.]

It feels like I've been run over and Che'nya was driving.

Oh dear... that bad, huh?

[Allen puts his phone away, but otherwise doesn't move.]

Would you prefer if I cleared out so you can get some rest or... would you rather I stuck around for now?

...could you stay? Trey's busy keeping the dorm under control.

And how do you know how Che'nya drives?

His dad and my dad are old friends; Dad's asked him to drive me a couple of places when neither of my parents were available and he was. I think riding in the car with him driving has shaved years off my lifespan.

Do you ever look at the people allowed to drive and wonder just who in the world is giving these people their licenses?

Trey and I have a little bet about how long until his license gets revoked. It's just for treats, but do you want it?

[Riddle smiles and grabs his phone to text Trey.]

He's betting on a year from now, I'm betting on a year and a half. You?

I think I'll go with two years.

[If not longer, but hey, who knows!]

...enough about that. How are you handling school so far?

It's been fun so far! I'm enjoying my classes quite a bit.

[Riddle nods, and then sighs.]

Sorry, I'm. Well, bad at this.

[He gestures as if to say "being a normal teenager"]

If you want to go, I understand.

[Allen shakes his head.]

I want to stay. [A beat.] And let's be honest with ourselves, it'd probably still be a little awkward even if you weren't bad at this. The whole "suddenly family" thing is weird.

[rulesofrose]

...you're not wrong.

[A small smile.]

At least you're nice about it.

Suddenly having more family is weird to me, too, even if I knew you existed. Still, I can't imagine not being nice about it, to tell you the truth.
